Summer Bummer

Posted by Exer on Thursday, July 1st, 2010

We’ve been having rain, rain and more rain the past couple weeks. Looks like it may be a typical wet Alaskan summer. Not that I should be all that bothered by it, since I’m not actually working outdoors at the moment. What do I really have to complain about, mowing the grass too often? I [...]

Alaska isn’t always a winter wonderland, covered in feet of snow. We are a green, green state, for a few amazing months of summer.

Puppy Tales

OK, well he isn’t exactly a puppy anymore, but that doesn’t stop me from calling him “pup” every now and again. Whenever my mom stops by to visit she calls him “grandpa”, but that’s just because she is evil and likes to pick on helpless animals. Yup. Anyway, here is my PUP out enjoying the [...]

This little lady decided to land on my brothers hand while we worked on his car in the driveway. She wasn’t in any hurry to fly away, so we grabbed a camera and decided to try out the macro lens.

If You Musk

Posted by Exer on Sunday, April 18th, 2010

Every day is a lazy day for a muskox at the Alaska Zoo. It must be a lonely life. I went with my cousin, who kept saying things like “They want to be free!” every time we would reach a new exhibit. It annoyed me at the time, but looking back on the photos I [...]

Snail Mail

Posted by Exer on Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

It’s so funny the way things are shipped. I use this site called the Avery Universal Package Tracker to track things that I have due in the mail, because I can enter multiple services (fedex, usps, ups) all on one page. Well they also show you a little Google Map image to visually show you the path your package is taking. When you can actually SEE where your box has went, you notice just how bizarre some of the shipping patterns truly are.

Take for example the image above of a package I have arriving via. UPS.  Originated in Santa Rosa, California, and was shipped to 2 other different locations in CA before being taken clear across the country to Louisville, Kentucky. Then shipped ALL the way back across the country up to Alaska.

Of course I know that these different shipping services have multiple hubs all around the country, and only “some” of them are able to make the trip to Alaska, but it just seems funny seeing the box being shipped further away from me only to be brought closer later!
