Summer Bummer

Posted by Exer on Thursday, July 1st, 2010

We’ve been having rain, rain and more rain the past couple weeks. Looks like it may be a typical wet Alaskan summer. Not that I should be all that bothered by it, since I’m not actually working outdoors at the moment. What do I really have to complain about, mowing the grass too often? I [...]

Alaska isn’t always a winter wonderland, covered in feet of snow. We are a green, green state, for a few amazing months of summer.

Puppy Tales

OK, well he isn’t exactly a puppy anymore, but that doesn’t stop me from calling him “pup” every now and again. Whenever my mom stops by to visit she calls him “grandpa”, but that’s just because she is evil and likes to pick on helpless animals. Yup. Anyway, here is my PUP out enjoying the [...]

Don’t Bug Me

This little lady decided to land on my brothers hand while we worked on his car in the driveway. She wasn’t in any hurry to fly away, so we grabbed a camera and decided to try out the macro lens.

If You Musk

Posted by Exer on Sunday, April 18th, 2010

Every day is a lazy day for a muskox at the Alaska Zoo. It must be a lonely life. I went with my cousin, who kept saying things like “They want to be free!” every time we would reach a new exhibit. It annoyed me at the time, but looking back on the photos I [...]

Adventures In Shopping

Posted by Exer on Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

I stopped by Walmart Tuesday afternoon on my day off work to take a quick look around.  They had just recently converted to a “Super Walmart”, or a “Super Center” — something with the name Super in it — and I wanted to see what was so super about it.  I honestly couldn’t see much of a difference at first glance, aside from size:  the place seems twice as big now.  I guess it has more clothes and groceries now, and if you were really hungry and naked I suppose you really would think the place was ‘super’.

Anyway, while I was there I overheard two ladies talking.  It went a little something like this:

Lady 1:  Did you hear that?
Lady 2:  No, what?
Lady 1:  Something is on sale, for 50 cents.
Lady 2:  What was it?
Lady 1:  I didn’t catch that part, but 50 cents is a good deal!

That by-play was apparently in regards to a broadcast that had come over the Walmart intercom.  I missed it as well, but I found the conversation between those two women to be hilarious, and a perfect example of American thinking:  I don’t know what it is;  I don’t know what it does,  all I know is I want it.
