Summer Bummer

Posted by Exer on Thursday, July 1st, 2010

We’ve been having rain, rain and more rain the past couple weeks. Looks like it may be a typical wet Alaskan summer. Not that I should be all that bothered by it, since I’m not actually working outdoors at the moment. What do I really have to complain about, mowing the grass too often? I [...]

OK, well he isn’t exactly a puppy anymore, but that doesn’t stop me from calling him “pup” every now and again. Whenever my mom stops by to visit she calls him “grandpa”, but that’s just because she is evil and likes to pick on helpless animals. Yup. Anyway, here is my PUP out enjoying the [...]

Wildlife Advisory

Posted by Exer on Thursday, September 20th, 2007

In response to the increasing number of reported human-grizzly confrontations in the area, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game has advised hikers, hunters,  fisherman and visitors to be alert and to take extra precautions when traveling in “bear country”.

Experienced outdoors men and visitors alike are encouraged to wear bells on or in their clothing so as not to surprise a bear by their presence.  People are also encouraged to carry pepper-spray with them in case of an unexpected encounter with one of these temperamental animals.

Be alert for signs of bear activity.  Recognize the difference between black bear and grizzly scat.  Black bear waste is identifiable by the presence of berry and leaf remains.  Grizzly bear scat, on the other hand can be recognized by its strong odor of pepper and the presence of bells.
